Thumbs up Diskeeper Lite
If you're tired of the Windows supplied defrag tool there is a freeware (actually nagware) version of Diskeeper for download:

http://www.webattack.com/get/dkeeperlite.shtml

It doesn't have all the features of the full version of Diskeeper but it works very well. You can only defrag one volume/disk at a time and you must do it manually (as opposed to the full featured "set and forget"). Each time you open the program you will get a splash screen begging you to buy the full version. Not really much of annoyance given how often you will defrag.

Diskeeper is a great program. I have the full version and it is worth the $40 for the full version if you install/uninstall/test/manipulate/YouNameIt your system as much as I do. Much faster then windowx xp defrag. Get the free version. I am assuming you will enjoy faster defrags with it as well.

I forget where I copied the following solution to scheduled defrags with lite...I've tried this, and I'm doing something wrong on xp home, but maybe it'll help some of you...if you get it to work, let me know;

just run NotePad, and enter one line into a new file:

defrag c:

Save the file and name it "defrag c.bat" or any similar, obvious name ending in ".bat". You then can click on the file to manually trigger a defrag of C:. or you can use Task Scheduler to run the batch file whenever you want, such as late at night.

If you have other drives, you can either defrag them via separate batch files (a "defrag d.bat" file would contain just the line "defrag d:" for example), or you can enter the lines serially into one batch file.

let me know if this works for anybody

Nope, didn't work for me. I use Windows 98. Just keeps showing "defrag c:", and goes fast, keeps repeating it really fast. Doesn't do anything.

defrag in xp with batch file
Have you seen a fix for this at all yet? I do the same thing win xp pro, I make a batch file and when I run it; it just keeps reexecuting the command but doesn't run defrag. I've also looked into other options such as pause but I can't get it to work either.
