Best tip I have heard of in awhile...
I use a colour photo inkjet printer for various tasks.

Instead of constantly changing the settings from printing photos to doing simple draft text, I came across a great idea.

I have installed 5 different printers on my system, all using the same printer driver. But, each printer has its own settings. For example I have:

Epson 750 Photo(draft-black)
Epson 750 Photo(fine-black)
Epson 750 Photo(normal-color)
Epson 750 Photo(fine-color-matte paper)
Epson 750 Photo(photo)

So now, when I print something, I simply select from the above list and don't have to dig into the settings of the printer.

And as another hint, my printer driver software is on a CD. To avoid loading the CD five times, I simply created new printers with basic drivers that came with Win98 and then went into the printers properties and changed the name and the driver while finalizing the settings as well.

Nothing like saving time and energy.

No they are all the same printer. The profiles are just different. That way if he wants to print only black and white, he just has to change the printer selected instead of digging through the setup properties.

What a great tip! Now why didn't <b><i>I</i></b> think of that? I am constantly resetting from black text to color, and vice versa. Thanks.

Yea, but wouldn't windows want to install the "different" printers on different ports? Yea, it is cool. You're a frieking genius! I don't use a printer, though, but it's still cool!

You can install as many printers as you like. And they can all point to LPT1:.

I didn't come up with this idea, but that doesn't mean I'm not a genius.
