Changing the Drives Label
I operate Win98SE.
The service guy partitioned my drive as "Recover 98 C:" and "Storage D:".

I wish to rename the labels not the letters and the search found two solutions that did not work for me.

Solution #1: In My Computer right clicking Recover 98 C: followed with properties; then renaming the label to "C:" yielded "incorrect parameters". Unacceptable.

Solution #2 is below from Nick's quote: This appears to change the C: or D: to some other letter. I wish to keep my original letters but remove the "recover 98" and the "Storage" labels.

How do you rename your fixed or removable drive names in windows explorer? I'm sure it's a registry tweak, but I have no idea how to do it. I have 2 hard drives, with a total of 3 partitions, plus a cd rom drive, plus a cd burner, plus a USB camera mate for transferring digital images, plus a zip drive. It would be very convenient to label them something other than C, D, F, etc.
Anybody?

Any suggestions on how to remove the "recover 98" and the "storage" labels?

Thanks,
davidrs

Go to a DOS prompt and type:

label c:

and press ENTER. It will prompt you for
a label name, or if you want none just
press ENTER again. To do the same for
the D drive, just use label d: instead.

You may have to refresh Windows Explorer
to see the change.

Cheers, Mac

You can use method#1.But dont type the drive letter in-its gonna show up in brackets(c: )anyway. If you dont want the name just delete what's in the Label dialog box to leave it blank.HTH

Well, I knew that later versions of Windows have
most DOS commands available, just wasn't sure
about this one.

So you've used the "label" command in XP?
