RecycleNOW - Bluefive.pair.com
http://bluefive.pair.com/

Hello,

Has anyone come across the above site. It contains RecycleNOW,
a program to empty your recycle bin without having to open the bin. Saves "clicking"! But I use it with care, and only if I know that what's in the bin is really not needed. The program's icon sits on the desktop and is used instead of clicking the bin.

Sorry if that's a little basic for most of you! I did a search and couldn't find any mention of it on the site, but if it has been reviewed, then apologies.

Or you can use a batch file to clear it.

DELTREE /Y C:\RECYCLED> NUL

Only doing that clears it from DOS so the recycle bin still shows the full icon when it is empty.

Hello brendonhu

Thank you for your input. Great for all those who understand batch files, but I'm afraid a non-whiz-kid like me wouldn't have the first idea what a batch file was, how to make one, or how to use it So this little program is a simple and easy solution for me; it saves my brain cells and it's another site to have a nose round. Plus I'd rather have my little bin showing empty when it is.

Have a good day,

Understandble, but if anyone wants to use a batch file to empty the recycle bin, here you go.

Open Notepad. In a new file, put the following line:

DELTREE /Y C:\Recycled> Nul

Go to file, save. As the file name, use "filename.bat" WITH the quotes.

Every time you run this batch file it will empty the recycle bin for you, or you can set it to run on startup.

To get it to show the empty icon, make the icon for Full Bin the same as the one for Empty Bin.

Ok I promise its not as hard as it sounds. If you decide to do it on startup, right click on the file, go to properties and under the program tab, tell it to Close On Exit. Then right click on the file again, and choose edit. It will open in notepad. Add the word EXIT to the end of the file. That will make it close itself after it empties the bin.

You can alos use the shift key when deleting a file and it will bypass the recycle bin altogether. There is also the option to set the recycle bin to automatically delete files in it's properties sheet. There is also an option to set the amout of space the recycle bin reserves for not deleting files immediatey....frees up some drive real estate.

Yes to set the recycle bin's max file space, go in the properties and theres a slider bar thingy for the percent of the drive it should take up
