Thumbs up {Resolved}RedHat Mouse & Modem Help
I've installed ReadHat 7.3 (now upgraded to 8.0) on my IBM A31 Thinkpad. I had no installation problems whatsoever. However, I was wondering if there was a way to get my track point and usb mouse working at the same time? I can have one or the other, jsut not both. The real kick in the *** is that during the upgrade to 8.0, while in the installer, both mice were enabled!!!! Also, i can't get my modem to work. Any suggestions?

On the mouse and trackpoint-I think you can only use one at a time as I dont think X is capable of running two in a single configuration.I may be wrong,but I've never heard of anyone doing that.
You probably have a winmodem.Contact IBM about solutions to that.They're on a HUGE Linux push right now so they may be able to help.

Is your modem PCMCIA? if so check to make sure you have that enabled,
You might also consider doing a fresh install rather than an upgrade, I just tried upgrading from Red Hat 7.0 to 7.3 and wound up with a hole lotta wasted space, Red Hat apperantly doesn't believe in deleting unused files from the previous install

Thanx guys, I figured out (thanx to lynch) that i have a winmodem and as far as i can tell it's not supported under linux. I never got the two mice working together, i don't think it's possible. Just really annoying cause it worked so well in the installer. just one more question. I'm mounting a fat32 partition in my fstab file but i can't get it to allow anyone but the root to write to it. Chmod 'ing it doesn't work, says "operation not permitted" even from root. Any suggestions?

At the end of the entry for the fat32 partition,but before the last part,ie."0 0 "
add this:
umask=0
It should look somthing like this:
/dev/hda5 /mnt/fat32 auto,noauto,user,umask=0, 0 0
The umask=0 allow others than root to read fat or ntfs partitions.
HTH
