[SOLVED]so i'm an idiot....
I changed the resolution and a window popped up and said to log out then back in......ok i logged out and then nothing but black screen staring at me....so i rebooted ....still the same.....sigh ...what am i not doing right?
BTW....i have had this box on for about four hours....so i'm still very very green.It couldnt handle the res......

when you rebooted did you at least get a command prompt?

I fixed it....it couldnt handle the res change.swapped monitors and changed it back.works fine now......
