Booting up problems
Hey,

Whenever I boot up my comp i get HUGE (5min) waits when starting Sendmail and sm-client. They both end up starting [ OK ] but it's REALLY annoying to wait this long. It never used to happed. Any ideas on why this is happening, what these are, or how i can stop/skip them?

From the Tips How-To, section 2.19:

2.19 Why does sendmail hang for 5 minutes on startup with RedHat? Paul Anderson, paul@geeky1.ebtech.net
This is a fairly common problem, almost to the point of being a FAQ. I don't know if RedHat has fixed this bug in their distribution, but you can repair it yourself. If you look in your /etc/hosts file, you will find it looks something like:

127.0.0.1 localhost yourbox
When sendmail starts, it does a lookup on your hostname(in this example, yourbox). It then finds that the IP for yourbox is 127.0.0.1, sendmail doesn't like this, so it does the lookup again. It continues with this for a while until it eventually gives up and exits. Fixing the problem is extremely easy, edit your /etc/hosts file and change it to something like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
10.56.142.1 yourbox

Is your computer on a network or is it a single PC? If its not in a network and you dont use it to send mails in the network then try this,

Once in the GUI(GNOME/KDE), open the Shell Interpreter and type serviceconf. This would open another window and you can check/uncheck the services. Uncheck Sendmail from the list and see if everything works fine later. If yes, good!

If you're using RH Linux then this link will tell you more about Sendmail -

Sendmail

To know more about serviceconf check this link -

ServiceConf

Np, disable it

Its not needed as you use the E mail and its the ISP that does the job. Sendmail isnt needed! Disable it and post back about the results!
