Knoppix, CD drive
Will running Knoppix regularly (2-3 hours a day) stress the drive it's running off? I'm only using a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo on my system right now, due to a 300 watt psu, but I have a spare CD-ROM I could put on. Knoppix doesn't seem to access the drive as often as I would've expected, but I'd hate to shorten its life any more than necessary.

Any thoughts? I'd normally post a hardware question in that forum, but I figured I'd ask Knoppix users directly.

If you have enough ram it shouldnt hurt it too much.I'd say with a 300W PS you could add another CD drive W/O problems. If you use it that much, why not install it?

Thanks for repling, lynch!

I'll go ahead and pop it in, and see what happens. I was concerned about power, because according to this wattage calculator I'm pushing it with my current set-up (adding the CD-ROM will bump me up to 309 watts). I expect those numbers aren't set in stone, but I'm using El Cheapo brand psu, so I doubt 300W is what it's pumping out (saving for that Antec!).

Ah, well, power supplies are still cheaper than combo drives.

Knoppix is quite nice! I can ignore the Red Hat drive for a while now! Many thanks to mobo for recommending it!
