Linux Networking
Hello,

I'm trying to network two computers together. They're running Redhat linux 8 and 9 and have intel 1000 pro nic's. I've got them connected directly together but I can't seem to get them to communicate with each other.

Could anyone provide some tips or assistance, tried googling but no luck.

Thanks.

Are you using a Crossover Cable to connect them together? How are you trying to communicate with each machine? Are they on the same IP subnet?

Yeah, I have them connected with a crossover cable. I have one machine with the IP 192.168.0.1 and the other machine with 192.168.0.2. I can't seem to ping or do anything though. Is there something else I need to do? Create routes or something?

What is the subnet mask set to on each machine.

Can you post the output of ifconfig on each machine.

How about setting your SubNet mask to 255.255.255.0 on each machine. And look at your BroadCast address on machine two. It is the same as the IP address. That makes no sense. Your broadcast address should be 192.168.0.255 on each machine.

Here is a copy of my ifconfig

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:BA:4A:52:F5
          inet addr:192.168.0.22 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:2489972 errors:2 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:2286211 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:1367860770 (1304.4 Mb) TX bytes:1159334325 (1105.6 Mb)
          Interrupt:11 Base address:0xd000
