Network Setup plus some other problems
Alrighty...so i just installed slackware 9.1, and im having some problems. Ill start with biggest concern to least.

1. I need help getting my cable connection set up. Im guessing Slackware was unable to auto-detect my built in ethernet hardware (on motherboard), as i have no config files for it. I told Slackware to use DHCP to configure my setup, but still not working. I am behind a linksys B-router if that helps (im wired, and theres another computer using wireless). So how do i get this thing workin now?

2. Im having some weeeeird problem with my date & time. First off, every time i start kde, the time is different. Started off with 4:00 pm, then I manually changed it to 7:00pm, now i restarted kde and its 11:35 pm. But not only that, when i try to change the time, i right click on it and hit adjust, and kde control module crashes (kcmshell)....It caused the sigsegv signall (11). ???

3. I was unable to get my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro working properly with the preselected drivers, so i had to select generic vesa driver. Every time i tried to startx, it would fail with any of the ati driver selections (ATI generic, radeon generic, and even vga generic failed). Im guessing i just have to download ATI's driver, but again, i need my internet running.

Any help is greatly appreciated

You may want to roll your OC back to stock +2500 and reinstall. After you get it running the way you want it then OC it again. Also be sure you chose the right kernel to handle that 1GB of ram.
This is slackware so you need to be prepared for a lot of this kind of thing. Great, isnt it?

time is easy to fix from the console...

date (whatever the date /time is)

man date for the proper format

as far as the ethernet..we need to know what chipset it uses so that we can compile the module in the kernel for it.

Ok cool. First off, its an nforce2 chipset for the motherboard. Second, i dont think the OC made a difference...ive been running it for 6 months like this without a problem, but if you still think it will make a difference, ill do it.

The kernel i chose was scsi.s. Here's kind of a weird situation though, not sure if its a huge deal. I have an 80 gb SATA drive, and it is running as hdg, not as like sda or anything. I found that weird, but i figured as long as it works...

I downloaded the nvidia unified driver for my motherboard chipset now (tar.gz), and im guessing this is exactly what i need. So i need some help now installing it into the kernel.

well you need to untar them with tar -zxf file.tar.gz...in the directory there will no doubt be a INSTALL file that you should read . That will explain how to install it and what steps you need to take.

The nvidia install files and such dont come with any documentation on how to install it. I untared the file, then according to the documentation on the nvidia site, i did a make, then a make install, and theres nothing else said after that on the nvidia site. However the ethernet stuff is still not listed in dmesg, and internet does not work yet.

Ive been reading a book on running linux, and according to that, i should also do insmod, but when i tried that on nvnet.o, it says it is installed but with warnings (Something to do with tainting the kernel), and still doesnt work.

I still have that time problem by the way...while date in the console works, id like to figure out why trying to change the time would cause an error (while root).

Hope to get both of these resolved soon

Have you tried running netconfig ? Open a console and type :
netconfig
Here's
a little article about it. Be sure to read through it carefully before you do anything. Instead of using insmod use modprobe:
modprobe nvnet

Just to let you know, the nvnet module is working now....dont know how, just yesterday i turned on my computer, and it loaded up....

The only thing is, i still get the message that it was loaded, with warnings. Should I be worried about this, or just continue on without paying attention to it?

I used to get those same messages and never had a problem with it. Should be OK
Glad to hear it's working.
