simple file transfer nfs trouble
I have two computers one fedora core 2 and the other mandrake 10.
if I run samba server in fedora, I can transfer files to the mandrake using smb4k.

however if I try to mount the same folders for nfs I get permission denied by server(fedora computer).

note: I have the same trouble using two red hat computers.

I think there is just some simple setup I need to do to get this to work.

Hiya raccoon,

I propose (as usual) the safest way to solve your problem, i.e. try to read the documentation (HowTo) which has lots of examples:

http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/howto/

nfs how to
the samba works

I guess the real trouble I have is nfs.

i'll look for a nfs how to. I have exhausted my red hat book I bought at the store. It does not provide any detail about security on nfs.

hey raccoon, there is a thread on the redhat mailing list that looks similar to your problem:

http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedor.../msg00664.html

See if that helps.

thats it
Thats the stuff not in my linux book. I found another location for info the usr/share/doc area. Good info on samba but none on nfs. There is nfs-utils in there I guess that would be another place to start.

thanks for the help

Have you considered using ssh? You can transfer files via scp (secure copy) or sftp (secure ftp). A lot more secure can nfs and easier to use. Plus you can run x-sessions remotely plus do vnc etc.

Thumbs up simple file transfer nfs trouble
There is a nice HowTo for NFS:

http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/NFS-HOWTO/

But, as my friend lynch proposed, the combination ssh + sftp works like a charm.
And I heard also that vnc it's quite cool.
