New to Linux, need some guidance Just received a Dell 2650 server running Redhat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0. It came preinstalled and had a GUI that ran to setup the network, one User and the root password. That got all setup and worked, somewhat, I was able to SSH in with the username, but found none of the normal commands would not work unless you went to the specific directories they were located in, like ifconfig, netstat, route, etc. I halted the system, moved it to another location(the blowers are loud!) restarted the system and could no longer get into it via IP, could not ping it etc. Looked and found the IP addresses had disappeared. I was also not able to get to the raid 5 disk, looks like it was never setup from the factory. I then decided, screw it and reinstalled from scratch using the setup disk from Dell to load the drivers and then the redhat disks. Wel I can now SSH OK, but I cannot get users to login. I ran useradd to add a user, but am not able to login with it, only the root password. What did I miss? |
