Talking Linux From Scratch--Oh Boy!
Ok well every linux guru should just come here and lets talk. Well my idea so far is that the LFS project is really a book telling you what you will need to get started and then on how to make it, because i don't really see any major downloads on the website except the book or guide. Anything else too it i've been looking at > http://lfs-mirror.tpegg.org/lfs/whatislfs.html and it didn't explain much cept that it is done by "the book" which i guess is really a list of essentials and non essentials, and the building blocks of a linux system.

Talk about LFS here because this looks like a good centralized place for it.
I can learn and others can benefit too. (as if gentoo was hard enough)

look at something like damnsmall linux or the like, that you can take a very compact distro and say add mozilla to...and then burn it to a usb/cdrom and have a perfect disto for what you want

LFS is really a learning distro. Though, I have to say, if I had some l33t programming skillz [Which is obviously don't.], I would build an LFS system, and then write a non-python interface to portage. Python wouldn't be so bad, but the issue is that it's slow for me on old hardware.

i'm a python noob but thats the only language i know... oh unless u consider html. well i'll try and use ideas from the LFS book on shrinking DSL into maybe 16mb for my pendrive and possible a 3 floppy distro for old computers. Just learning things and happy to be doing so. I didn't know portage was written in python. neat. port portage lol.

Amen, brother.
Scroll to the bottom of this page to the HTTP/FTP section to download a bootable CD with all the packages/patches on it. There are other methods of obtaining the required packages/patches that are explained there.
LQ has a LFS forum, also.
Now, begin the descent into madness.

Major headache in the LFS/Gentoo Department. Well i'll undergo changing up gentoo by modifying packages of the etc and getting it compiled right. I'm looking for a <highly> optimized mini-os, kinda like the QNX demo floppy.
thanx for feedback i almost forgot about linuxquestions
