I have just recently installed Mandrake 10.1 on another machine (Not connected to the internet) and I fiddled around in it for awhile.
I can play mp3s and create documents etc but I can't find any way to play avi, mpegs, etc.
What I need is a program to play these files, I have no clue if the program was supposed to come on the cds or not but the only thing I saw under the video section was kdmware and I cant seem to do anything with that.
I looked around on the internet at some apps like videolan and mplayer but the descriptions they give to install these was really confusing. (compile the binaries?, type this and that into a terminal?)
If anyone can give me some help on how to do this I would appreciate it.

I would think that the mplayer rpm is on your cd's.

Okay I found what seems to be mplayer on the 2nd cd and installed it, now how would I be able to use it, I have no clue where the program is when it asks to find one to associate with the file types.

Associations are really a windows thing. Konquror has it's own association system, but mostly in the *nix world it's all about mime types. That said, try going 'mplayer (filename' in the terminal
