A friend gave me RedHat Linux 6.1 and I would like to install it on my computer. When I set up my 30 gig HD, I made a 5 gig partition for the Linux O/S before I ever got the software. My question is: What is a "painless (and EASY) way of setting up Linux to operate from that partition without wiping my Windows O/S on the rest of the HD?"

I hope to be able to "play" with this O/S and get to learn all of the features of it.

Thanks for your time and trouble. Have a fantastic day!

You will, during the install, be asked if you want to install LILO (LInux LOader) on a floppy boot disk. This is one option, provided your boot order in BIOS is a: first, or you can, alternately, place LILO in the MBR, in which case your computer will default to Linux unless you type 'Windows' at the LILO prompt. The lilo.conf file can change the default back to Windows once Linux is installed, if you wish. Good luck, and watch the Penguin go!
