Can't Boot MEPis
I had my old Compaq set up with two hard drives running Windows 98 with something like drives F: through I: on the second hard drive. I ran the MEPis installation CD to install Linux on the second drive. No problem. It repartitioned, installed, and gave me a Linux menu with choices to load one of several Linux Kernals or Windows. Worked well for months then Linux hung up without a cure. I reinstalled and froze Windows up without a cure. So I scorched-earthed it. I reinstalled Windows on Drive 1. I reformatted Drive 2 and left maybe 4 Windows partitions on it. I then reinstalled Linux from the MEPis CD as before. I told it to install the GRUB on hdb. Now the system boots to Windows and the only way I can run MEPis is from the CD. I checked Drive 2 (hdb). All the files are there from my Linux installation. I just can't boot to them. I have reinstalled and put the GRUB in hda, it still defaults to Windows. How can I get that start menu back that gives me a choice about which OS to load? If I can't get that menu, is there a way when the computer boots to manually tell it which system to load?

Can you boot Mepis with the CD?
If so, re-install grub to the MBR:
(as root)
grub-install /dev/hda
or
/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda
