Rehat8 BootDisk
I am a window tech who wants to get his feet wet in the linux arena. I purchased. I purchased a Red Hat Linux 8 booK (your visual blueprint to an open source operating system). I installed linux accordin to the instructions however I was unable to create a boot disk(floppy) when I attempt to boot up my pc it will not boot up as it's lookin for a boot disk. Does anyone know of a utility that I can use to create a floppy boot disk. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

There should be a utility on your RH CDs in the dosutils directory called rawrite. You can use that or just get an uptodate version of Linux.

I was able to create a boot disk not I'm having another problem, I can't activate my nic. I'm not sure what the problems is. I don't know if it's driver issue or something I did in the set up. Does anyone have any advice on what to look for?

The last version of Red Hat is V9. Thereafter Fedora Core took over. We are in FC4 now. Red Hat is not known to be friendly with nic so switching to a newer Linux should get over your problem.

Majority of the current distros do not have a problem of kicking start a nic.

I would say the Red hat 8 book will be 90% helpful for you installing distros other than the Red Hat series.

Red Hat is not known to be friendly with a nic that didnt exist when Red Hat 8 was released. What nic are you using?
