GENTOO 2005.1 INSTALLATION SCRIPT/WALK-THROUGH.

One thing I do notice, you don't seem to mention at all partitioning beforehand.
nor for many installs have I ever had to mount -t reiserfs. Its picked up when the mount process is done.
not to detract from the effort, you might also want to point them to the official graphical installer, assuming that most people use x86.

Hi,
the official graphical installer. Is it any good? How did the install (with it) go for you? Any hints?

basically grab the iso, boot up, on the desktop should be the gtk installer program. Just follow along after that. I've not used it, but from what I've heard for x86 its great. I'm just waiting for the ability to write custom scripts for it so you can start it walk away for 8hours to 3weeks and have a system good to go.

tsunam -- I spent ages trying to find the Gentoo installer program.

It appears to be vaporware.

very first link on google takes you to: this documentation page which will in turn tell you that under the experimental area on the mirrors such as http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/e...86/livecd/x86/ you'll find the iso for the installer version with full gui interface.

considering i've actually played with it(not installed because its for x86 only right now ), I know its far from vaporware.

Thanks a lot. I had seen this but did not recognize it as such.

I guess the livecd-x86-2005.1.iso CD is it -- what are the clues that this was the CD with the gui install?

I was looking for a separate program.

tsunam -- RR4 Linux (formerly Gentoo RR4) also has a graphical installer.

I have not tried it though.

I finally got around to downloading and installing it.

It is very hard to install as it refuses to choose the correct X-server.

In fact it totally stuffed up the graphics -- to the point of being unusable.

Reiser4 is good? I have found Reiser3 to be everything I want in a filesystem. I have yet to try the new Reiser.
