using wildcards in an if statement
a user will define a variable path in a script file.

this script will take what the user inputs and change it.

i can't seem to get the if statement to work.

DIR=directory/sub1_directory
#DIR=directory/sub2_directory

if [ $ODIR==*/sub2_directory]
then
echo "in"
DIRECTORY=`echo $DIR | sed 's/\/sub2_directory//g'`
else
echo "out"
DIRECTORY=`echo $DIR | sed 's/\/sub1_directory//g'`
fi

echo $DIRECTORY

Or, you can use:

basename $path
