Solved: until loop
any ideas why this doesn't work?

filecheck=/u/c/file
until false
do
if file -f ${filecheck}
then
echo "completed succesfully" >> ${LOG}
return 0
exit;
else
echo "file not yet found" >> ${LOG}
fi
sleep 300
done
