I just got Linux for Windows(the one with the red box...), installed it using lnx4win, and I thought everything went fine. After I had restarted the machine, the GRUB bootloader came up, I selected Linux, and then Liniux tried to boot. When the scrolling DOS-like text appeared, Linux started to hang. The text said stuff like "Unable to handle the request to page the kernel at the Virtual address" and "not 100 % native-will probe irq's later". Then I could do nothing except unplug the computer and try it again. What should I do??? I am wondering if it will work with my computer. I have a Compaq Presario 7594 with a clock speed of 533 MHz, 64 MB of RAM, and about 8 GB of space. I am looking foward to a reply as soon as possible. Thank you for your time.

are you able to boot into windows?

i'd go with a true linux distro (i've heard bad things about lin4win), like mandrake or red hat because dual-boots are easy as pie to get working.

email me if you have any questions

Yes, I could boot into Windows, but I just trashed my computer totally; to the point of when you turn it on, you get the 'operating system not detected' message. Now, I got the Red Hat Linux 6.1 deluxe operating system off ebay, and I should get it soon. Until I get it, I'll just have to suffer with Windows. Anyway, thanks for answering. I was going to go with Mandrake at first, but then I read an article in Maximum Linux, and it seemed kind of, erm, like a toy. I know it is easy to install because I tried it before, but with minimal success. I guess I went with Red Hat because I heard that it was Linus' favorite distribution, and I figured "Hey, if the creator of Linux thinks it is the best, then it MUST be great!" Thanks for the info!
