I've heard that there's a way to port games and maybe apps that are supposed to be in Windows over to Linux. Is there a way to import drivers from Windows? My computer came with Vista and I tried to install XP on it but the drivers were incompatible, so I'm trying Ubuntu now (downloading currently). Also, is there a way to port apps and games and stuff like that or did I misunderstand?

My questions might sound stupid. Obviously I'm new to Linux. Haven't even used it yet :P

By 'port' them, what do you mean? Can you still play your games? Yes. Have you looked into an emulator like wine? Will your devices still work in Linux? Most likely.

Don't worry about importing your drivers. Linux can handle it in it's own way. Glad to see you're still trying.

Y'know, I'm not entirely sure what I mean by port either, lol, but what I'm trying to say is just play Windows games in Linux. I read about Cedega, which is supposed to be good, but it looks like you can't get it at a normal site like Amazon or something... I'll try out Wine. Thx.

I'm not sure what the word "distro" means. I finished downloading Kubuntu, and I'm using it LiveCD now, but when I try to install it, when I get to the "Select a Disk" screen it freezes up... It has the "waiting" cursor and does nothing. I've waited for awhile so I don't think that I'm just being impatient. I can cancel it, it just won't go any further. Any idea what's causing that?

A distro is a version of Linux. Sorry, don't mean to be talking over your head.

Kubuntu is a distro, so is Ubuntu, Slackware, Debian, et cetera.

Are you using Feisty Fawn? (That's version 7.04, the most recent one.) How much memory do you have? What kind of processor?

I've found that Feisty Fawn is relatively resource-hungry compared to Dapper Drake and others. You might want to try version 6.06 or 6.10.
