Where is there a good description of linux and
what it can do and whether any part of it is compatible with any windows programs.

Hi shetawk,

You can run Windows programs under Wine on Linux (not all, but a lot).

Check out Wikipedia's Linux page for a start here.

If U put the Ubuntu 7.04 live CD in while running windows it has a really gr8 intro & comparison.
