Get into ubuntuforums.org. Search your Broadcom 4311. There's a couple of threads - look at the ones with dozens of hits; NOT the fresh posts.

I'm workin on my second Broadcom right now 4311. The first was a 4318. Keep up with this post, if I get it I'll come back on it. If you get yours, ditto...

Is yours box a 64-bit, or a 32-bit? I don't know if that makes a difference...

BTW, your drivers are NOT installed (or configured, one or the other) ->

This is interesting.

My laptop has a Broadband 4306, not a Broadband 4311. I use this howto: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ireless+feisty. I have used the howto successfully a few times now.

This problem here is about a WIRELESS card but it only shows Eth 0 and Eth1. The drivers are shown as not installed in Eth 1.

The howto includes Problem 1 which is -
add ndiswrapper to /etc/modules
change eth1 -> wlan0 in the files below:
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/modeprobe.d/ndiswrapper
sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces
sudo gedit /etc/iftab

This changes Eth 1 (Ethernet) to Wlan 0 (Wireless) . Could this be the answer here???

In general you should be able to find a proper linux driver to use for the card tho it may not be installed already, I'm pretty sure I've seen it discussed on other forums tho cannot recall where. But recommendation to find more linux secific forums will no doubt yeild better results, howvere in my experience under linux if your device is not present after ifconfig, you have to install the driver first-ubuntu is a module like debian I think so it would be something like modprobe <drivermodulename> to bring up device

Thereafter your device name will be present and you can go ahead and manually set the essid, keys, etc. I dunno if all devices use the wireless-tools but if possible you shoudl make sure you have these present as they will ease using wifi.

Doubtfull but you may need to make the driver first, as a module may not be present on your distro already. Distro repository will likely be a good place to find driver, either way you basically do a search using card name, find out cards chipset, then find linux driver for said chipset in above mentioned places, with luck its already somewhere on hd- I think its a common card.
