Internet Connection Dual Boot
I have just installed Ubuntu 8.04 as a dual boot option on my Vista Laptop. All the drivers seem to be installed and working properly and I'm only having a few problems with Ubuntu, most, I assume, because I don't know what the heck I'm doing.

But I do have one problem that is very bothersome and I hope somebody out there can help me.

Some information you may require:

Computer ... Acer Extensa 5620-6830
Operating Systems ... Vista Home Premium SP1, Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
Network Connection ... Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

Until the addition of Ubuntu, the computer was programmed to automatically connect to my WPA secured home wireless network. I now have Ubuntu programmed to automatically connect, and it does. However, when I leave Ubuntu and boot to Vista, the computer now indicates that it connects with the network, but I cannot connect to the intenet. A second reboot, and the connection is made. This problem only occurs after leaving Ubuntu and booting to Vista the first time. A 2nd reboot and I have no problems. Booting to Vista after closing down Vista causes no problems. The problem happens only when going from Ubuntu to Vista.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the NIC is not resetting. Just go to a complete shutdown and then restart and that should solve the problem.

Tried that. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Thanks anyway.

The laptop has a switch to turn off the wireless NIC. I used that prior to shutting down linux and going to Vista. After the Vista boot, I was able to connect to my wireless router and to the internet.

I consider this a work-around and not a solution, though it is better than rebooting twice. Anybody think they have a better solution? I sure hope so.
