strip the gui
i'm wondering if there is a way that i can strip ubuntu of the gui and make it so all programs are command line initiated. i'd still like to keep files and folders and things, but just organize it so that in order to reach any file or folder or run any program, the text line has to be initiated.
the crackhead downstairs keeps putting trojans in images and i think. prick! ihudainj!!!

You could strip everything out of the panel except for a Terminal button.

I'm not quite sure what you want.

...
mmm.... i want to remove any graphical regularity: menu bars, window management; etc.

i'd like a command line environment, wherein i can still access graphic capabilities and programs as i could with the graphic desktop environment, whether they are graphically complex or not

You can change the "runlevel" Ubuntu will boot into. I'm not sure but I think a runlevel of 3 will boot in a console-only mode without X or any GUI at all.

As a side note, why do you think your system is being affected by the person to whom you refer?

EDIT: This page might help.

Peace...

The runlevel is also explained in here.

You know, a simple login password could keep people out, and locking the desktop while you're away...
