Linux/Vista networking
I/ve got a Vista Home Premium OS with VMWare installed. I've got Mepis and OpenSuSE installed as virtual machines. My problem is that Vista won't allow the linux OS's to open files on the Vista partitions. Sometimes the Linux OS's can't even see the files. I've gotten various errors including "no network detected" and that Vista won't allow any more connections.

Oddly, I've got an external HDD that I can connect to either the Vista OS or directly to a Linux OS but Vista won't allow browsing even with the HDD connected to the Linux OS.

I've also got XP installed as a VM on the same Vista and that works fine.

On the same machine I've got XP installed as a dual boot with Vista running the same linux VM's and that also works fine.

Is there a simple way to get Vista to release it's iron grip on this problem?

Hi DVOM,

It sounds like you need to explore the Vista security policies & capabilities and most likely allow access to your Vista partitions by Linux. That is an off-the-top of my head guess.

I do not use Vista, and no longer use WinXP Pro SP2.

Have you tried run Vista as a virtual machine on with LiNUX as the VM Server...that works well for me in XPPRO. I have heard of problems with networking VISTA.
