cursor problem in feisty
having a problem with feisty fawn. the computer keeps voluntarily moving the cursor around, and its producing the most annoying situation for writing. it isn't the application because its doing this in all text editors, or even applications such as scribus and karbon14. any solutions

What kind of keyboard are you using? I had a situation similar to this and it turned out to be a keyboard issue.

Peace...

...
it may be, tthe computer was dropped once. its a laptop keyboad, i don't know how to check the keyboard model on it, or firmware. if it is a keyboard issure though, its bad because text on screen is just highlighting itself, clicking here or there, and the cursor is bouncing around.
wouldn't it be more a mouse type issue ?

Well, that depends. If the text cursor is moving around and you're not typing anything, I would think there is a "stuck" key or some kind of signal being sent from the keyboard to the system.

If the mouse cursor moves like it's possessed, it could be a mouse issue or a problem with X. I tried connecting a USB mouse to my system (Ubuntu 7.10) once at the mouse cursor flew around the screen like a demon and at random. Switching to a PS/2 mouse solved that problem. I suspect I had a bum USB mouse or one X didn't care for.

Since you're using a laptop, see what happens if you connect an external mouse and/or keyboard. If things are stable with the external mouse or keyboard, it might be the integrated mouse or keyboard got damaged when the laptop was dropped.

If the behavior stays the same with the external keyboard or mouse, then there might be an issue with X or something on the software side.

How Feisty ever behaved normally on this system or has it always behaved like this?

Peace...
