Can not log out from KDE desktop

I am using Fedora 8 and there are time when right-clicking on the desktop and going to "Log Out" does nothing. I can use "Ctrl-Alt-Backspace" to force a log out, but I don't like doing this. Can some one please tell me what is going on so, if possible, I can fix the problem? If I am not mistaken, this also happened with Fedora 7/KDE.
