Intel snubs Microsoft; offers Linux certification
Intel snubs Microsoft; offers Linux certification.

Intel's enthusiasm for open source is gathering speed: now it is endorsing professional Linux certifications, snubbing the old Microsoft certification program.

Hi tomdkat,

I have mixed feelings about this.

One the one hand, Linux is arriving as a major technology being used by industry, and on the other, if you have been keeping track of what Linus has been saying - he would feel very sad if Linux never becomes obsolete. I happen to agree with his sentiment given my understanding of where technology is going over the next decade.

Certification is usually something that a business sells, and other businesses begin to require as a so-called "qualification" for hiring. They automatically create a catch-22 situation for all of the qualified folks that can absolutely do the work for which they are trying to be hired - but, do the businesses support training and qualifying their own staff already on board.

Linus gave Linux away, and now he whines about various things people do with Linux (such as when he whines about Gnome). So I tend to brush off what he says now because all he does is complain.
