hi,
i don't really know what exactly is the problem.
it has something to do with a fire wall or a proxy.

when i go on mirc it says something like can't resolve irc server.
when i go on msn messenger it says that i'm not connecting to the internet.

I am not the one that should reply, but it seems no other tech looks at this board.

First off, maybe explain your network a little bit more.
I have a Linux server it is my Gatway to the internet it is set up with a net adapter with internal ip of 192.168.0.1 port:8080
my external Ip is 207.??.???.?? port:80
somthing like that.

I know that most of the programs you listed probly need to be configured in-order to access the Net, if your behind a firewall, wingate, router etc..

So i would first look at the connection tab of the program, and see if there is a Proxy or Firewall setting.

Next I would try a simple solution, check Proxy and select HTTP as its way to get out, if that doesnt work check proxy or firewall and give the correct info IP address, Type of Proxy, User name and password if required, Port etc...

Hope this helps.

If some programs are not getting out but others are, you may need to reset your security settings. Do you have a router/firewall or proxy? Does your ISP give you a proxy to use for some protection?

Alot of Internet programs need to have specific ports opened and some can even "auto-detect" where to get out at.

If you are running a Windows based system and have issues like this, you can check Internet Options/connections/LAN Settings and uncheck any proxies.

If you are running a Linux System, you will need to check your network configuration to see what is there for security.

Wish I could help more but not that familliar with Linux.
