Question Starting Linux
Hi,
My system already had 2 OS Win 98 and also Win XP Professional installed. I installed RedHat Linux 7.2 recently. I selected the bootloader(Grub) and installed it on the first sector(s) of the Hdd and not in the MBR. But after completion of the installation(Linux) and restarting my Pc I didnt get any Grub bootloader but the regular OS Loader of Windows. I want to know if I cant run 3 OS on a system. Please help and suggest what is required. Should I remove Win XP Pro or can I run Linux by doing something?
Pvc.

you may be able to write a line into the boot.ini file in windows for it but i don't think windows will see it. another possibility is to boot from the linux floppy that you make when installing it. i have had 3 os's on my pc inclding linux mandrake but i let lilo load into my mbr.

You can run as many O/Ss as you have room for. I currently run Win98SE, Win2K Pro and Linux all on the same system. I'm using loadlin to boot Linux from DOS, as I need to initialize an ancient sound card (don't ask ... ). I suspect you will need to put grub or lilo in the MBR and then tweak their configuration file(s) in order to have a single interface to all of your O/Ss. Alternatively, you could use a commercial product such as System Commander to manage this for you.

Hope this helps.

boot from floppy

# to install grub on hda from RH run
/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda

# Assuming
#hda0 = 98
#hda1 = w2k
#hda2 = RedHat 7.2
#Whatever version of grub came with RH 7.2
# should have something like this

title Red Hat Linux 1
root (hd0,2)
kernel /vmlinuz-yourkernel ro root=/dev/hda<1>

#add or edit the following to /etc/grub.conf

title windozereallysucks
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

title windozereallysucks2K
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader +1
