I get to this stage on bootup and thats it.
I tried typing ls as advised in another thread and get:

anaconda-ks.cfg install.log install.logsyslog
[root@localhost root]#

What should I do now?

So, just for other members, we tried the startx command now you get this error -

Sorry about the other posts btw.
I am re-installing and now have a screen:

Graphical interface (X) configuration

This gives me loads of choices. Is this anything to do with the prob? I am installing on a Tiny (UK) laptop (thought I would knack that up rather than the desktop first while I get used to it) But, running before I can walk jhave win xp pro already installed but the dual boot seems to work ok.

Well, I guess Xconfig would be a good thing. May be the video card isnt detected correctly! Did you select the correct video card during installation?

As for editing the file, try this at the shell -

pico /etc/hosts/ [enter]

Its just that, the thread where you posted about the root..., it was started in 2000 and ofcourse was solved then! So if you post a message there, rest assured no one might even check it and so there are few chances of help. So just wanted to make things clear...

As I said, whooossshhhh. most is straight over the top of my bonce.
Something to do with s3 twister video but when I choose this I am left with tons of choices. Hopefully I have mailed the card vendor and they will reply :-))) in my dreams
but I have noticed something called XFree86. been on the site but need to look closer tomoerrow. Does this mean anything to ya?
