Excellent

Its a mixture of all sorts, if you look at the original MBAM scan you ran at the beginning, that's the starting point. Then, its just a case of delving deep and digging out the rest, some of which has no name

For the remains of the Java, can you do this:

Open Java in the Control Panel and under the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button. Then click on Delete Files.

Make sure both of these options are checked:
  • Applications and Applets
  • Trace and Log Files
OK out of all the screens.

Then, re-run the systemlook scan for me

Excellent, looks like they're finally gone, so lets just run OTS as we're nearly there

Download OTS to your Desktop and double-click on it to run it
  • Make sure you close all other programs and don't use the PC while the scan runs.
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar. Make sure not to use the PC while the program is running or it will freeze.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Use the Add Reply button and post the information back here in an attachment. I will review it when it comes in. The last line is < End of Report >, so make sure that is the last line in the attached report.

Make sure you attach the report in your reply. If it is too big to upload, then zip the text file and upload it that way

Start OTS. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the panel where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

Code:

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here

Okay, is the computer running okay? Also, originally you said this, is it still there:

Quote:

Hi Eddie. Yes the computer has not run funky eversince all my photos were restored , around step#6.... But I do still have "Other User" available as a selection when I log off which I do not remember being a selection before all this. Also when I go into C>Users.... I still have Administrator, Default, Mcx1-THEHAUPTS-PC, Mcx2-THEHAUPTS-PC, Public,& The Haupts . All selections here are available as users. Eddie.... I think I know what the Mcx extensions are, but I could also be wrong..... could they be Media Center Extenders..... Like my xbox(es) ,ps3... On my network I have 2 registered Xbox360 as media center extenders exclusively and a Ps3 also capable of media center extending duties as well....

The other thing that has been bothering me is when I click computer, my favorites tab has "Desktop" and right under that it has "Desktop(2)", it also has "Downloads(2)"... no tab for "Downloads", "Recent Places" and "Recent Places(2)"...."Recorded TV" and "Recorded TV(2)".... When I click either desktop or recorded tv tab they look like they have the same thing in them but they are labeled differently.... all of the seconds seem to be copies or re directs to what was in the originals... what do I need to do to rid these seconds while ensuring that I'm not going to cause an issue?

Typical, I was replying earlier with a good length of words, and then bsod. Updating drivers, and trying out some things, but the problem with bsod's is, unless you know what actually caused it, you just try something and sit and wait

Anyway, yes, you're right about the mcx bit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows...enter_Extender

Quote:
Media Center Extenders (MCX) can either be dedicated hardware devices, such as set top boxes or televisions,[1] or software based implementations such as the Xbox 360. First generation hardware based devices were based on the Windows CE operating system whereas the second generation devices can use other embedded OSs such as Linux as well. The Extender creates its own user account on the host PC(MCX1, MCX2, etc.) and then uses a version of Fast User Switching to enable the use of the host computer and Extenders at the same time.
For the favourites tab, I think I know what you're seeing, I'll have a look at that.

For the other User, is this what you're seeing:

Yes thats what it looks like when I log off or startup the machine....
I dont ever turn off the computer, it does go black not really to sleep but black, so i dont normally do the usual startup but im sure the "other user" had never been a selection before. I remember only having my selection available in the centyer.....

Okay, there is something that may work, but before we start lets create a restore point and a backup:

Go to Control Panel and open up System.

In there, in the left pane, click System protection.
Click the System Protection tab, and then click Create.
In the System Protection dialog box, type a description, and then click Create.

Then, lets make a backup of the registry:

Backing Up Your Registry
  1. Download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
  2. Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
  3. Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
  4. Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
  5. Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
  6. Press OK
  7. Press YES to create the folder.

------------

Now, start with going to Start then Run and type the following:

Regedit

and press OK.

When the Registry pops up, navigate to the following key, using the folders on the left, as you would normally do in Windows Explorer:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Now, when you're there, expand the ProfileList folder, and see if you have a .DEFAULT as follows:

Now, if you do, (where the big red arrow is ), rightclick on it and select Delete. I don't have it, but this is mine off a legit key (DON'T DELETE THE ONE BELOW)

Now, close the Registry by clicking the pressing the X, reboot and see if that helps.

Hi Eddie, Sorry about the delay in replying work has been busy so I have had very little time to attend to the other things that have needed attention lately.
I followed your instructions, which as usual were spot on. My "other user" option is now gone. Thank You Sir.
I do still have the seconds options for Desktop,Downloads, Recorded tv,Recent places... Can i just right click and delete these without fear of creating an issue? I dont think they are a "problem" but it just bothers me that I know they "shouldnt" be there.
Thank You again Eddie for all your help.

Good to hear that the User option has gone, and its okay for the delay, I know about work etc, as I stay late most nights now

For the second options for downloads etc, if they have the (1) etc in their names, then you dhould be okay in deleting them.

What I would do, is delete them, but do not empty the recycle bin for a week or two, and if there are problems with the tabs etc, just put them back

Hi Eddie, I right clicked them and selected remove. Remove was the only viable option on my selections which is fine by me.
Is there anything else i should do before removing the seventeen diagnostic programs that are over populating my desktop ? Is there anything else i should do to my computer to help prevent an issue like this in the future?
Thank You again for all your help.
