Hello It started with re-directs from yahoo searches so I downloaded Malewarebytes Anti-Malware to see if it could find the problem it found some problems and all seemed to run well for about a half hour. Then the computer restarted by itself while I was browsing the net.
When it came on again, All my .Exes and shortcuts wouldnt work.
I tried updating the registry definitions no luck. I have downloaded Hijack this but it will not allow it to run. Not even in safe mode. AVG has been turned off and wont get back on.
I also tried changing the names of files to .com but with no success.
The only thing that seem to be working is internet explorer
I believe I still have the virus but have no way to scan for it.
I am running Windows 7 Version 6.1 version 7600
Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

A bit more information on my computer and the problem.

I was able to pull up system in the control panel.
Processor pentium dual core cpu E5400@2.70GHz
Installed Memory 4.00 GB 3.75 Usable
System Type 64 bit operating system

It should also be noted that only the 64 bit version of internet explorer will work.

I have also noticed some microsoft programs and accessories will work like Paint.

When I try and install hijack this I get installation directory must be on a local hard drive error. even though I only have 1 hardrive on my computer. This is typical of everything I try to install.

I dont know how, but today windows firewall came back on and seems to be working.

IMPORTANT - for Windows Vista and Windows 7 start all tools by using right click > Run as Administrator.

Please download Rkill from any one of these links and save it to your desktop.

Now double click on Rkill to run it. If the first one doesn't work try the next one.

This will help remove certain processes and should restore any file associations and your desktop. Note: Your system is still infected as Rkill does not delete files - it merely helps to temporarily disable the infections, allowing us to start the cleansing process.
Do NOT reboot after running Rkill.

Please download exe_fix to your desktop. (Use your falsh drive to transfer it)

Double click on exe_fix.com to run it.

Type the number 1 at the prompt and allow the tool to run.

This will allow you to run .exe files.

Please download TDSSKiller.zip and extract TDSSKiller.exe to your desktop.

Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it. Press Start Scan.

• If Malicious objects are found, ensure Cure is selected (it should be by default)
  
  
  
  
• Click Continue then click Reboot now
  
  
  
  
• Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\
  
  For example, C:\TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_24.07.2010_13.10.52_log.txt.

Please attach that log.
