Exclamation Can't get a HJT LOG!! Keep getting an error!!
I have HJT installed on my PC . HOWEVER, when I click to get the log in notepad, I get an error:

cannot find the C:\ProgramFiles(*86)\TrendMicro\HiJackThis\hijackthis.log file

I am running Win 7 64 bit on an HP desktop computer

I also get this error: Denied write access to hosts files

Notepad C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts

When I typed in the prompt it comes up BUT HJT is NOT listed in the Hosts file!!

I went to PC Guide Forum and they helped some. I ran CCCleaner and Malware Bytes. I had 4 problems with the Malware Bytes and fixed them and rebooted as instructed.

I still can not get a log of HJT!!

Is it because I am running a 64 bit machine?

Thanks and HELP!!

You need to go to Control Panel - User Accounts, then select "Change UAC Settings", then move the slider down to "Never Notify", then click OK, then restart the computer.

HiJackThis should work okay now without displaying any warning messages.

--------------------------------------------------------

If you've been using the "Cleaner" and "Registry" features of CCleaner and have been using any other cleaner/optimizer/booster/tuneup/tweak type utilities, you've possibly damaged Windows and broken some programs and started to wreak havoc with your computer.

THANK YOU!!

I had a virus warning from AVG 2 nights ago. Something about "jetpack". AVG did an update and informed me that I could use DNT-> Do Not Track COOL!! I clicked on AVG and discovered that my system had NOT been scanned since 03/31/12!! I had it scheduled to run at 0200 but I shut my PC down every night. I also had it scheduled to run on startup!!

As mentioned earlier, I ran MWAB and CCCleaner.

I use Firefox 12, gmail, and have a nursing site, weatherbug, a fire/ems/police scanner, and face book running on my PC from the time I turn it on til I shut it down.

I have had to end the FF process because it uses so much memory. I have seen it as high as 750,000

I need to know if all of this is related to the missing files in HJT.

Thanks!!

If you're referring to (file missing) at the end of several of the O23 entries in the log, that's a glitch in HiJackThis because it doesn't work properly with the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

It doesn't mean that files are missing in your computer.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I suggest you get rid of AVG 2012, then replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0.1526.0.

It's lighter and more user-friendly and well recommended here and not problematic like AVG.
