Hi Mambass,

I am ready to format my laptop, but how can I retain the license? I dont have cd for the Microsoft. My laptop does not have CD drive, so I have only option to format it via USB drive. How can I do that?

Thanks a lot

Hi FlourishDNA,

My training has been in the area of malware detection and removal. I'll need to refer you to the site's Windows XP Forum for assistance with operating system re-installation.

You will need the operating system distribution media and a way for your computer to read it. Since your XP license was a retail license, I doubt that you have a recovery partition on your computer that some vendors provide to facilitate restoring the system to its out-of-the-box state.

Windows XP is no longer sold and Microsoft has stated that they plan to discontinue support of it on April 8, 2014. You can use the Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your system meets the minimum requirements for the Windows 7 operating system if you're interested in purchasing a copy of the OS. Be aware that upgrading to Windows 7 may also require that you purchase new versions of some application software in order for that software to run under Windows 7.

Please let me know how you'd like to proceed from here.
