Ok I installed the Win98Fix that I got from Flrman, after doing some reading on another forum I came up with this:

For the CoolWebShredder problem, try running this tool first; it was intended for that issue.

I don't know whether the reg file problem is you or me; I did cut some extraneous material, but it should not have altered the ability to import it.

You did move them out of the zip container before trying to import them right?

Here are two unedited files taken from my laptop

That CW link does not work for me, and yes I unzipped the folders

I found the ComKd.dll by searching *.dll. I deleted the file

Didn't work for me either, sorry; try the Smartkiller link from this site:

http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-332.html

Oh, rats; you have Win98! no wonder they didn't work, I don't know what made me think you had XP.

Hang on while I get the same files from my Win98 box; there are some minor differences.

Ok, here it is *fingers crossed*; there is no "regedit" key in Win98, so only one file...

Hi Rollin thanks (and everyone else) for all the help, I installed Ad-Aware 6 (Build 6.181 and it found everything.

I've been running Spybot 1.2 and I thought that was just as good but, I think there is a newer version

here is the AD6 quarantine log of what was removed :

Well those are all good things to remove, just let Ad-Aware do it. Keep in mind that the tracking cookies, not serious issue, will probably show up in every run once you have been on the web for a while.

Of course none of this will address the regedit problem. Has that been resolved, did you try the last registry patch? -- this time it should install.

Sorry the Registry is opening normally, I'm not sure which fix finally did it as at one point I was able to add the WIN98fix. I didn't put in your last Regfile so it must be the previous or the Win98fix.

* it worked before I ran Ad-Aware

- After I ran Adaware the I was prompted to install the key where as before I was not

None the less everything is working normally, I still have to check to see if I can get into safe mode but I'll try that later (no rush)

Thanks again

Ziggy

Okedoke, good to hear -- I don't think the runfix.reg file would have had any effect on running regedit from start>run, since all it does is remove a couple of "runonce" entries from the registry, but who knows.
