Hi Flrman1 ,
Don't want to be a hanger-on, but I happened to be looking at mscomfig, startup tab and noticed that these two items are Startup Items and are checked. The first is: desktop c:\Windows\isrvs\d..... HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Ver.....; and the second is: ffisearch C:\Windows\isrvs\ffi........ HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Ver..... I don't know what the significance of this is. Any thoughts? What if I unchecked them?

At the risk of being a pain in the you-know-what, I would like to your thoughts on this. I am unable to download pdf files to Adobe Reader 6.0. I don't know whether this has to do with my security setup or what. I've had this problem for some time now. I posted this problem as a new thread on this forum and also on the Software forum, but so far not much help. Someone did suggest that maybe I should upgrade to Adobe Reader 7.0, so I uninstalled 6.0, but now can't get 7.0 to download. By the way, when I tried to download pdf documents to 6.0, I would get a blank screen with a red "x" in the upper left corner, but the title at the top was correct. Something is preventing my downloading certain things. I, however, had no trouble downloading the tools you had me use in our previous investigation such as HijackThis, "isearch" and "getservice".

Thank you so much for your help in getting rid of offeroptimizer. Still no signs of it in my open Internet site list. I'll try not to keep bothering you. Addnovice

Hi Flrman1 ,
Thanks for your prompt reply! That looks like a great reference on Adobe. Will try some of the solutions tomorrow when I'm more awake and will keep you informed. Meanwhile I now submit a HijackThis log.

Hi Flrman1 ,
For your information, below is a reply I posted in the All Other Software? forum to several responders. I think I have fixed my pdf problem and I think it was using info from the document you referred me to. Thanks again for all your attention and help. Addnovice

Thanks for all the good replies! I got helpful hints from all. Someone suggested that I should try removing Reader 6 and get Reader 7. I proceeded to try to download the Download Manager for 7, but it wouldn't download. It showed a download popup with the usual animation but never did anything but show the info going from one folder to another. I tried turning off Windows firewall but to no avail. I then uninstalled my Comcast Security Manager and went to the Security tab of IE Tools, Internet Options, then went to Custom and there I enabled "Download unsigned ActiveX controls"and"Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe". I tried to download the Adobe Download Manager for 7 and it downloaded in about half a second. I then ran the manager and it proceeded to download and install 7 successfully. I then went back to default security level in IE and turned back on the Windows firewall. Reader 7 is working fine and I can download and view every pdf document I've tried. Unfortunately, I wish I had uninstalled the Comcast Security Manager and changed the IE security level one at a time. Now I'm not really sure which one made the difference. I got the idea about changing the IE security level from a document referred to me by your Flrman1 who I was working another thread with, but posed the subject problem to him to hopes that he had some thoughts. The link to the document follows. Thanks again for all the input.

Thanks for posting back.

Now for removing the rest of the infection we were working on before, please go here http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com...howtopic=23364 and follow the directions to download and run KAV 5. It should remove this infection you have. After you have done that post another Hijack This log here please.

I need those so I can try to figure out what is reinstalling them.
Is there any way either of you could also send me these files. I am interested in ripping apart this trojan in my lab. My e mail address is : doyoulikeants@yahoo.com

Thanks!

isrvs.exe
reading all the discussions on how to remove this isrvs.exe, I finally was able to successfully remove it after many many tries with hijackthis and killbox.

1. searc and delete c:\windows\system32\drivers\delprot.sys

2. run hijackthis

3. fix C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe and C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe

4. run hijackthis again - at this time the log should not have C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe and C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe

5. restart computer

6. delete c:windows\isrvs

7. restart computer

This worked for me. Hope this help you.

Thanks Nelsont315 for you input. I can't get past the first step. I can't find delprot.sys. Did you boot into Safe Mode to do the search? Maybe I should try that. Somewhere along the line I was told that XP may not show all files in Normal Mode. Regards,Addnovice.

Hi Flrman1 ,
Your last communication referred me to Gladiator Security Forum. They sent me instructions on how to get rid of my virus using a Kaspersky program. I'm pasting my reply to Gladistor for you infomation and, hopefully, comment. Regards, Addnovice.

Thanks Calamity Jane for the exquisite, explicit instructions for removal of my virus. However, I have a dilemma. I am experiencing none of the symptoms I had when before I started working with Flrman1 of Tech Support Guy Forums, namely, the repeated appearance of offeroptimizer urls in my Internet open-site list in my task bar. My computer seems to work as well as ever also. I'm running SpyBlaster and I scan every few days with Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE. Spybot has not reported any problem for several days, and Ad-aware has reported very few. But the "isrvs", etc. culprits still show up in my HijackThis logs. Since I'm of the persuasion that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" , so I hesitate to go through your suggested procedure and risk messing up my computer. I fear that this virus I have will emerge at some point. I'm not sure. I would greatly value any insight you can provide. Thanks ever so much for you help. Addnovice

Yes I did safe mode as suggested in Thread #5 from flrma1.

Also, I changed the properties of the files/folder (C:\WINDOWS\isrvs) to remove the 'read-only' attributes.

In Thread # 37 from flrma1, he mentioned delprot.sys and edmond.exe. That is when I started looking for those files.

In Thread # 39, you found the file 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\delprot.sys'. I used search and made sure the file attribute is NOT read-only, then deleted the file.

And the rest, is what I posted earlier.

Good Luck!

Removing those can only help. I don't aee any way it can hurt. Please post another HJT log.

Can you post a link to the thread you started at Gladiators please?

Hi Flrman1 ,
I guess I don't understand the system at Gladiator. The first link below is my original posting at Gladiator. When I returned to the site to look for a response, I found the KAV 5 instructions from Calamity Jane without any individualized note to me, but I took that as her style. It was not in a continuous thread with my posting ahead of it. Today, you asked me for a link to the thread, so I went looking for my original posting so I could include it. I found it and it was followed by a reply from LoPhatPhuud as you can see. Should I go download a new version of HijackThis as he suggest? Today is the first time I've seen his reply. Gladiator apparently doesn't use e-mail notification. There seem to be two threads. The second link is the one from Calamity Jane. Good to hear from you today. I will probably go ahead and try to do the KAV 5 procedure. Did you want a HJT before I do it? Regards, Addnovice.

Go ahead and do the KAV procedure and then post a new Hijack This log and also post the report from the KAV scan.

I guess you misunderstood me. I didn't mean for you to go there and start a thread. I sent you there to use the tutorial for running KAV that Jane posted there as a guide.. I want you to continue with this here.

Hello again Flrman1 ,
Thought I'd go ahead and send HJT log prior to trying KAV 5. This is a new version of HJT. Thanks for your help, as always. Addnovice
