Red face Solved: Help
I also had the zona02[1].exe virus. I followed the procedure above and it eradicated all signs of the virus with one exception: my webstart start page has been overwritten, even if I try to correct it in Tools/Internet Options/Home page:/Address:

Here is the log from Hijack This:

Hi Cworthy

Welcome to TSG!

I have split your post off into your own thread. In the future if you have a Question/Problem please start a "New Thread". It get's too confusing trying to address two different people's problem in the same thread and you may get overlooked.

Please continue in this thread.

Download and install APM from: http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=apm
save it to your desktop you'll need it later.

Next click Here and download the the new version of Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Now run the APM program
In the upper window select C:\Windows\explorer.exe

In the lower window find and rightclick this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\h4sljcs39h8onrdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.d ll.dll.dll.dll

Select Unload DLL and click OK on the prompts that follow.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Delete on Reboot. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following line then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot. Click Yes. It will then ask if you want to reboot now. Click No.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\h4sljcs39h8onrdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.d ll.dll.dll.dll.dll.d ll.dll.dll.dll

Run Hijack This again and put a check by the following entry. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: h4sljcs39h8onrdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.d ll.dll.dll.dll

Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another HJT log.

I got to this point:

"In the lower window find and rightclick this file:"

But the subject file was not listed. There were many C:\WINDOWS\system32\***.dll files, but not the .dll.dll.dll.dll..... file.

No, everything has only one .dll.

I've since gone back to the instructions you gave to msivick and followed it again:

Ran HJT (O20 - AppInit_DLLs: h4sljcs39h8onrdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.d ll.dll.dll.dll was still there)

Ran Ad-Aware SE (had three new critical objects which I deleted)

Ran Kill It (where I marked C:\WINDOWS\system32\h4sljcs39h8onrdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.d ll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll for delete on reboot)

Ran HJT again. Log file below:

I don't see anything in your log. What is your homepage being changed to?

It should be:

http://home.peoplepc.com

It is:

about:blank (No specific address.) It's a search engine with a bunch of gambling, porn, online meds, etc. If I change it back to my home page, it gets overwritten.

I'll try reinstalling the People PC software, but I think the bug is in IE, and I already tried reloading Win XP to no avail before I signed up to this website.

unzip it to the desktop.

Be sure to have at least 1 internet explorer window open.

Double click on the runme.bat

This will open a command window. In the command window enter the digit 1 by hitting the 1 key on your keyboard and then hit the Enter key.

Notepad will open with a log in it. Please copy and paste the log into this thread.

Then do the same thing for options 2 and 3. Paste all three logs in here as a reply.

I don't see anything there, but I may have missed something. I'll go through it again, but in the meantime please boot to safe mode, run Hijack This and save the log it creates in safe mode. Post that log here please.

There seem to be an awful lot of references to a Google toolbar. Are they all legit?

I just spotted this in the pvlog:

ppc.dll 1fd0000 241664 C:\Program Files\PPC Advertor\ppc.dll 1, 0, 0, 1 about Module

Click here to download Pocket KillBox.

Unzip the files to the folder of your choice.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

C:\Program Files\PPC Advertor\ppc.dll

Now put a tick by Delete on reboot. Also put a check in the box by Unregister .dll before deleting.

Click on the button with the red circle with the X. It will ask for confimation. Click yes then yes again and your computer will reboot.

After it fully reboots, look for the C:\Program Files\PPC Advertor folder and delete it. You may have to delete it in safe mode.

Well, that fixes it! You da man.

Your "alms" will be forthcoming.

Now what about creating a System Restore File? I was reading your response to msivick, but when I right-click on My Computer, and select Properties, I see only 'General' and 'Shortcut' folders, but no 'System Restore' tab.

Also, I just ran Ad-Aware SE again, and had 16 new Critical Objects, which I deleted. Are these objects viruses, or benign junk? Is there a way I can keep from getting them again?

And lastly but certainly not leastly,

Thanks.
