| Got some kind of backdoor So being temporarily distracted at the time (and permanently an idiot) i opened an .exe file i got through AIM from a friend with one of those "Is it ok if I put these pictures of you in my blog" messages. Symptoms are: Firefox browser jumping around to different sites Symantec pops up occasionally letting me know that Backdoor.HackDefender was quarantined Symantec Email Proxy keeps telling me that messages I never sent were unable to be sent because my mail server connection was interupted I ran an updated Symantec scan and it told me it fixed the problem (don't remember what it was called)...but obviously it didn't really fix anything I also ran CWShredder (found nothing), Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware (both found trivial stuff) - all with updated definitions I don't really know where to go from here...maybe something with the registry? i had that problem before, but i don't know what programs are best or otherwise what needs to be done i am running windows xp pro thanks in advance, you guys really helped me when i was stupid and got a virus last time |

| Please download the Suspicious file Packer from Safer-Networking.Org and unzip it to your desktop. Boot into safe mode. Run SFP.exe. Please copy the following lines into the Step 1: Paste Text window: C:\pizza.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\jqbyny.exe C:\elk.exe C:\WINDOWS\system\dllhost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\csts.exe then click "Continue". This will create a .cab file on your desktop named requested-files[Date/Time].cab. Locate that file and right click it then choose Send To then Compressed (zipped) folder) this will add a second folder to the desktop named requested-files[Date/Time].zip, Right click that file and choose Explore then from the menu bar at the top choose File then Add A Password. Make the password malware (all lower case letters) Please email the Password protected zip file on your desktop (named requested-files[Date/Time].zip) to AndyManchesta(AT)hotmail.com (replace (AT) with @) , You can then delete the requested-files.cab file and the requested-files.zip file from your desktop.

| I'm having some problems with this step. First, when I click "Continue" it creates a .zip file rather than a .cab file. This .zip file has the five .exes and a readme in it. When I go to "Send To" on this file, its only options are: AIM Buddy, AIM Share, Desktop (create shortcut), Mail Recipient, My Documents, and CD Drive (D: ). I tried to add a password to this file but right-clicking on it does not give me an "Explore" option, and the "Encrypt" option in winzip was grayed out. Thanks for all your help so far. |
