| Please help... I have a Dell PC, XP Pro - Pop ups all over the place including UDEFENDER, ONLINESTABILITY, PRIVACY PROTECTOR, ONLINE SECURITY WORLD and WINANTIVIRUS PRO. I have downloaded and ran Ad-Aware 2007 SpyBot, CCleaner, Trend Micro Anti Spy, A- Squared Anti Malware, and EWidow. No improvement. The PC also is running Norton Internet Security 2007. I would appreciate any suggestions that would cure this, Thanks!! |

| First, thanks for all your help and support. I'm very grateful. Secondly, here is the info you asked for after downloading and running the applications as you requested. However the 2 scans run in safe mode brought no results. Also, I'm still getting popups (helpyourpcnow.com) and there is a desktop background that hijacked our regular desktop background. It is bright red with a huge red logo that resembles a circle with 4 horn shaped things coming out of it (resembles a cattle brand) and on the desktop in huge letter it says - "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER!" under that it says "DOWNLOAD PRIVACY PROTECTION SOFTWARE NOW!" There is also an additional Recycle bin on the desktop that I can't get rid of. Also in the Favorites tab there are listed Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector, Pet Connection, Spyware and Malware Connection. Also, this PC has Firefox as its main browser. I don't know much about Firefox, so could that be part of the problem?? Anyway heres the log files. running. That may cause it to stall Make sure your ActiveX controls are set as follows: Go to Internet Options - Security - Internet, press 'default level', then OK. Now press "Custom Level." In the ActiveX section, set the first two options (Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'. Active X settings http://www.compu-docs.com/activex.htm Run ActiveScan online virus scan here http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself. - Save the results from the scan! make sure autoclean is enabled on the scans post another log, the smitfraud, the combo and the panda scan log! Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
double-click smitfraudfix.cmd Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter". The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
