Exclamation HELP: WinAntivirus and Other Malware
I need help. I've grown up with computers, but I don't know much about programing and virus specifics etc. My boss's computer has a lot of problems, and since I'm the default under qualified IT support guy - it's my job to try and fix it. A description of my problem and the HJT log file follows.

One problem is Winantivirus, but there is also a number of other malware since there are unwanted pop ups, the homepage continually resets to some advertising website, and there are fake Windows system warning pop ups too. I know Winantivirus is responsible for some of this but not all, so I'm assuming there are several other problems too.

I've searched all over the web and tried a couple things, but figured I should probably just post the actual HJT log and let smarter people help me. First, I followed the instructions here:

http://www.pchell.com/support/smitfraud.shtml

Basically it advised downloading and running the following programs:

1. SmitRem by NoahdFear
2. SmitFraudFix
3. RogueRemover
4. HijackThis
5. CCleaner

I was able to perform all the above except SmitFraudFix which seems like an important step, so I researched why it was not running properly. The problem is the window only opens for a fraction but the program does not run. I searched and found the following information here:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Viru..._22824848.html

So, according to the advice I downloaded and ran SDFix.

After all this, the computer runs more smoothly and the desktop wallpaper has returned (a white wallpaper had replaced the photo that was supposed to display). However, there are still a lot of problems because Winantivirus is still there, the pop ups continue including one to a "Bite Fight" video game website, and the fake Windows system alerts still pop up.

Below is the HJT log after I did all the above:

Major Virus Attacks and HJT Log
I need help. A description of my problem and the HJT log file follows.

One problem is Winantivirus, but there are also a ton of other viruses and malware issues. The symptoms include: unwanted pop ups, homepage continually resets to some advertising website, and fake Windows critical system warnings pop. One of the fake windows critical warnings says something about spyware.cyberlog-x. Whenever I search for "spyware.cyberlog-x" using Internet Explorer, the page is redirected and says "page not found". This also happens if I do any search at all related to viruses, spyware, adware, removal programs etc. so I think there is something in the virus preventing me from getting help online. Mozilla Firefox won't even open. I've don't all my research etc. on other computers because of this issue. I've tried a lot of different solutions but nothing has worked yet and I don't know what to do. Just so you know, I tried the advice on the following link and a couple things were fixed but most of the problems remain.

Great - thank you so very much for the response! Honestly I had given up so I really appreciate your help.

I won't be able to do this until Monday, but will try this on Monday, June 9th. I'll post the ComboFix and new HJT logs.

Thanks again...stay tuned.

Wow,

Okay I followed the ComboFix instructions found at: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix.

However, I had to download the files, burn them to a disk, then upload them on the infected computer. This is because I still cannot access any websites about spyware, malware etc on the infected computer (I always get redirected to a page that says "page cannot be displayed"). I can access websites that don't have anything to do with spyware etc. directly ie: google, cnn, but if I try to look at something like this forum thread, I get redirected.

Anyway, ComboFix will not run! I tried dragging the XP Pro Service Pack 2 file onto ComboFix, and nothing happens. I tried this several times, and rebooted then tried again and still nothing. I even tried running ComboFix without first installing the precautionary XP Recovery Console, and ComboFix itself will not open. I can open ComboFix no problem on this computer, but not the infected computer.

What should I do now? Thanks in advance.

Click here to download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply along with a new Hijack This log.

Great thanks.

The program is currently running. On the initial express scan there were several objects that I selected to cure, and the full scan is in progress.

I don't have time to wait until it's finished tonight, but will check it again tomorrow and post the Dr.Web Cure It log and a new HJT log.

Thanks for your help so far!
