  • Download FixIEDef.exe by ShadowPuterDude to your Desktop.

  • Double-click FixIEDef.exe:

  • That will open the About FixIEDef screen. Click OK to continue:

  • Next, press the Scan! button:

  • FixIEDef needs to run as Administrator to perform correctly. This message simply confirms it was able to run with admin privileges. Click OK to continue:

  • Wait for the scan to finish. It shouldn't take very long:

    • WARNING: FixIEDef will kill all copies of Internet Explorer and Explorer that are running, during removal of malicious files. The icons and Start Menu on your Desktop will not be visible while FixIEDef is removing malicious files. This is necessary to remove parts of the infection that would otherwise not be removed.

  • After the !!! All Finished !!! message is displayed, click Exit:

  • Post the FixIEDef log file, located on the Desktop along with a new hijackthis log.
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

And the browser is still doing the same thing - when going to a webpage it redirects - it says jump at the top of the page when it does it and then goes to a different website then chosen, the times that it doesnt say jump and take you to an unwanted website then it goes to the google search page without going to the website that was chosen in the search, so I have to always redo the search a few times before i can finally get to a website.

Thanks for your continued help!!

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Thanks for you response!

I am attaching the log for ComboFix and for the updated run of Hijackthis.

I had to attach instead of coping in because i got an error message saying message too long.

Thanks for you continued help and will watch for the next recommended steps as the browser searches are still doing the same thing.

Thanks

  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

2008-06-22 17:34 . 2008-06-22 17:34 10,453 --a------ C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\agyhu.bin
That's just a few of them...

Any idea what they are or where they came from?

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O3 - Toolbar: AVG Security Toolbar - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - (no file)

Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  1. Close any open browsers.
  2. If your Real protection or Antivirus intervenes with OTScanIt, allow it to run.
  3. Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  4. Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  5. The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  6. When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  7. Save that notepad file
If the log is too large to post, use the Reply button, scroll down to the attachments section and attach the notepad file here.
