well, I don't think its a firewall problem. I turned off the firewall and the problem did not go away. i then tried using Firefox instead of Internet explorer and I got no results. Did I do something wrong?

Are you still using version 7 of the free AVG anti-virus? If I remember correctly you can no longer get updates for it, and it may be upset at being out of date.

Suggest you uninstall it and get the new free AVG 8.

At least you'll have up to date anti-virus protection when you get the browser working.

ZoneAlarm when 'turned off' or 'disabled' has been known to still cause problems. I'd uninstall it, install it again, and either configure it or immediately uninstall it again.

I haven't tried to look at your HijackThis log in any detail--just "skimming the cream."

Although there are some problems in the log, I'm wondering if this may be related to the Zone Alarm conflict with the MS update. Were you aware of that situation? Did you download update KB951748 last week?

Even if you turned Zone Alarm off, it may still have services running that could interfere.

As for the malware infections, what should I do to remove/ fix them.

No, I do not think I installed the KB951748 update last week. Actually, my computer did update automatically recently. Could this be the KB951748 update?

ZoneLabs has a fix for the incompatibility problem.

If left disabled for long ZoneAlarm will almost definitely cause you more grief. Get it working properly or uninstall it.
