Unhappy Solved: I am connected to the network but the internet cannot be found???
Hi,
My Xbox 360 recently went in for repairs due to a malfunction in the hardware. When i got it back a few days ago, I reconnected it to my wireless network using the same method that i used when i first got the Xbox. It was then that the internet connection on my computer stopped working. The network works fine because i can ping the main computer in the house. When I opened the linksys control panel i received a message reading, "You are connected to the network, but the internet cannot be found. I have tried a number of tests and steps that I will list below and have searched numerous forums, but to no avail. If anyone has any ideas please help.

Other Information

-There are 3 computers (excluding mine), a psp, and an xbox 360 all with internet connections that are running great.
-The main computer (the one connected to the router) is a mac while all the others (including mine) are running on Windows XP Home Edition.

What I've Tried

-I have disconnected and reconnected the internet connection.
-I have been able to ping the main computer.
-I have not been able to ping google.
-I have restarted the DSL and Router and have gotten no results.
-I have run the internet connection wizard to make sure all of the settings were correct.

I any one has any suggestions or comments it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You for Your Time,
R.I.

Shut down the computers and game boxes. Unplug the router and modem.

Make sure the modem is connected to the router's WAN (Internet, Modem) port.

Plug in modem; plug in router; boot a computer. Look at the router's status pages to see if the WAN side got a good IP configuration from your ISP.

When you looked at the router's WAN status was there a good IP configuration from your ISP? So far what you've indicated is that your LAN and everything on it is communicating but some or all are having a problem accessing the internet through the router.

How are you connecting to post here?

My computer says that my connection to the router is excellent. I don't know how to check the IP configuration.

Thank you,

But, how? Through the router? Connected directly to the modem? Using dial up? Etc.?

You can always consult the router's user manual (on CD or download from the web). You may have to login to it; I can check mine w/o login--see attached.

Only the mac is connected to the DNS Modem with a wire.
Every other computer (including mine) is connected to the Router and thus the Modem wirelessly. My computer is the only one that has any internet problems.

I looked up my IP configuration and I believe it is: Automatic Configuration - DHCP.

I hope this information helps.

Thank You,
R.I.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Well, you have an Internet connection, you can ping Internet sites by URL. This must be either an issue with your browser or a firewall blocking it's access.

so should I try and install a different browser or mess with my firewall settings.
I'll try turning off my firewall.

Turn it off to see if it's a firewall issue first. If not, there's no reason to tinker with the settings.
