SP3 won't install. ftp.exe is running error message.
I have posted a message last night and got no response to it about this problem. I am trying to install Service Pack 3 on a friend's laptop which is running XP Pro and has SP2 installed on it. I get a message that SP3 can't install because ftp.exe is already running or being used by another application. I have shut down everything I can in the Task Manager, have gone to the startup list and closed down almost everything and still get the message. I find ftp.exe in windows/system32 but I can't rename it even because it says I don't have the authority (even though I am logged on as the administrator). Any ideas?
