arghh! i can never get the edit button to load....

anyway, i wanted to say that the performance thingy is still spiking to 100% so if that's fixable with RAM, then i'd like to figure how to get it all installed.

but if it's not going to change anything in the end, and i can use the money for a video card (assuming i can swap it out - can i or not?) anyway, if i can, then that would be just as fine by me.

You should be able to swap out the video card, although, another problem you are going to run into is the power needs for a more powerful one. Your power supply may buckle under the added power requirements.

hmm...yeah, i can see how that would happen if the performance is already maxing out with what i have.

saving for a new computer (or someone else's hand-me-down) is probably what i need to do. but if i were going to consider a modest upgrade for both cpu and video card, what's the best way to go about identifying which parts are compatible? does newegg (or anyone else) have something like they had on crucial.com where you put in your motherboard info and you get a list of components?

i'm happy to research and learn this stuff myself if there's an Upgrade 101 somewhere. (btw...if i should start a new thread in another section, lemme know, okay?)

thanks much!!

If you can locate a motherboard manual, it should tell you what types of cpus it will take. Darned if I didn't throw mine away, usually I keep them for years after the boards are gone

I saw you posted your video card, I guess it is an AGP card? Probably a 2X or 4X? All newer ones won't work as the voltage in the AGP slot is different on older boards, so check out the voltage there too.

i got a bit behind with the holidays and visiting relatives, but wanted to make sure to thank you both for all your help.

if i decide at some point it's important enough to spend more precious and hard-earned cash, i'll start by hunting down the manual (didn't know they had manuals )

thanks again for all you do here!!
