Not sure of the root problem but here are some symptoms:

(1) When downloading video from YouTube, download freezes up at ~36sec. Video will start but stop playing once it reaches the "end".

(2) When searching in Google (default search engine), and select a link, it seems to get lost. For example, if I search "tech support guy", I get a list of choices, the first of which is "HelpOnThe.Net: Tech Support Guy - Free help for Windows XP, Vista ..." - which if I hover over it looks to lead me to www.techguy.org/ If I click on that link from the initial IE window, however, I get sent to http://www-find-www.org/?q=tech%20support%20guy

Please help me to troubleshoot. I'm very much a novice. This is a desktop system with cable modem; the wireless connection (by which I connect through my laptop) appears to work fine.

no worries not the end of the world, certainly seems like a case of browser hijacking...run this http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HiJackThis.exe and report the log back here....altho ican already tell you....fully scan your computer for virii/worms/malware and other harmful software....do that before posting the log back here as it may solve the issue by removing found items...if problem is still not resolved...show log....good luck

Iseen similar problems to this before and only been able to get rid of one of them. the rest were a nightmare. Has it been happening long? I am just thinking that these can be gotten rid of as long as you are sure there are no viruses or spyware on the comp, backup your files and do a system restore. Thats the easiest option anyway,
