Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.




Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. alternate link 1 alternate link 2

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
• Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.
• MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
• On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
• Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

thanks. below is MBAM log followed by updated HJT log. Quick note that during ATF Cleaner scan, the following error message came up: "cannot delete ptc_.enu; access is denied". I clicked OK and continued. Last note on odd behavior: with multiple tabs or browsers open, there's a 2-3 second cycle where each tab is highlighted and active then it hops to the next one. No user action drives this. Just happens.

Updated HJT log below. Sadly, all symptoms remain the same: IE, Firefox, iTunes, Picasa, ALL revert clicks from the start page back to the start page. SOmetimes it will allow me a few seconds, even 10 seconds and two pages or so into news articles, before it reverts back to start page. ONLY browser that works is the ATT/Yahoo! Browser which we luckily set up years ago as SBC/Y! DSL customers. Even that one (and all browsers and web apps above) intermittently flash from being hot to not being active. Meaning, nav bar at top goes grey as does icon on status tray, as if the computers reading some other app. After a few seconds or a click on the browser somewhere, it becomes active again.

Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.

1. Close any open browsers.
2. If your Real protection or Antivirus intervenes with OTScanIt, allow it to run.
3. Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
4. In Additional Scans section put a check in BotCheck and Disabled MS Config Items and EventViewer Errors/Warnings
5. Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
6. The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
7. When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
8. Save that notepad file

If the log is too large to post, use the Reply button, scroll down to the attachments section and attach the notepad file here.

Go to add/remove programs and remove the Google and Yahoo toolbars.

[Donofs]

Was able to remove AIm toolbar from add/remove programs. Removed GOOG and Y! Toolbards from tollbars themselves, which had "uninstall" options. Neither were listed under programs for add/remove.
